Toronto (Ontario), November 2, 2026 \u2014<\/strong> The Honourable Edith Dumont, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, is hosting a public display of Treaty 13 at the Lieutenant Governor’s Suite at Queen’s Park from November 2 to 6, 2026. Presented in partnership with the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, the Archives of Ontario, and Library and Archives Canada, this marks the first time in recent memory that Treaty 13 is available for public viewing in Toronto.<\/p>\n

The exhibition features the 1787 deed, the 1805 agreement known as Treaty 13 (or the Toronto Purchase), and the accompanying 1805 map. The display provides visitors with a rare opportunity to explore the historical records documenting the treaty relationship covering much of the land that are now Toronto and parts of the Greater Toronto Area.<\/p>\n

Members of the public are invited to visit the exhibition from Monday to Friday, November 2 to 6, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Visitors interested in viewing the display are encouraged to plan their visit by consulting the Lieutenant Governor’s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As the representative of the Crown in Ontario, the Lieutenant Governor plays an important role in furthering the enduring relationship between First Nations, Inuit and M\u00e9tis people and the Crown. Hosting Treaty 13 during Treaties Recognition Week reflects the Office’s commitment to learning, reflection and reconciliation.<\/p>\n

It represents an enduring relationship between the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Crown, one that continues to carry responsibilities and obligations today. Having Treaty 13 available for public viewing at Queen\u2019s Park is an important opportunity for people to learn about the history of this relationship and the promises made between our ancestors and the Crown. We hope this exhibition encourages meaningful reflection on the history of our treaties, the commitments they represent, and the importance of honouring them today.”<\/p>\n
